Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

On May 18, between the 8:00 and 10:00 Masses, The Children’s Christian Education Ministry, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, held its Celebration of the Liturgy of Light.  This is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd’s equivalent of the Great Vigil of Easter, celebrated as appropriate for each age level Atrium.

As Coordinator of CGS, I want to take this opportunity to thank each member of our parish who attended and, while observing, shared this special time with our Children. Your presence showed our Children you care about them in an extra special way.  It was also an opportunity for our new Rector, Fr. Jordan Trendelman, his wife, Christina, and our faithful Supply Priest, Fr. Fred Thompson and his wife Lish, to experience a small glimpse of the Celebrations of the Church Year in which our Children are instructed.  For this, we say, “Thanks be to God.”

I also wish to thank Ms. Joan Algar, one of the Level 2 Scripture Readers, and Miss Eudora Holland, former member of our CGS program, and Miss Helen Traywick, current Assistant in Level 1 Atrium, for their contribution in this Celebration.  Miss Eudora, a guest of Miss Helen, has aged-out of our program, however, the many years she spent in all three levels of the Atria contributed greatly to her aiding the youngest of our 3-year-olds in their participation.

A very large thank you to all who have contributed in any way this year to our children’s Education Ministry, from building and supplying materials, to assisting in set up of Level 2, to scripture reading as Miss Sue’s eyesight has dimmed, making reading of  lessons  from the Bible impossible, to assisting in both Level 1 and Level 2 Atria, and most importantly, your prayers for this Ministry to our Children

At this time, as Coordinator, I humbly ask you to consider observing and possibly assisting in the Atria this coming year. No formal training is needed to assist, just a willingness to serve our Children, and in turn live into your Baptismal Covenant.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will resume after Labor Day, with exact date and time to be announced.

In the Name of the Good Shepherd,

Sue Cavanaugh, Coordinator, CGS

Cappy Traywick, Level 1, Catechist
