Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
**NOTE** There will be no Sunday School/Atrium on December 1.
We will meet this Sunday, November 24, 2024, with Muffin Minute/Breakfast beginning at 8:45 (don’t forget to bring something to share and we will eat breakfast together); Atrium will begin at 9:00 until approximately 10:30, or the place in the Liturgy when the Elements are brought forth by the people and the offering is collected.
Jesse Trees for the home and ornaments for decorating the Jesse Tree were handed out a little early for Advent this year. Instructions were included in each Child’s bag with the Jesse Tree. However, this year Advent begins on December 1, Thanksgiving weekend when so many people will be out of town and I wanted to be sure each Child would be ready to start decorating their Jesse Tree and counting down to Christmas Day.
Jesse Trees are an excellent way for Children to learn about the people and events in Jesus’ genealogy, beginning with Creation and leading up to the Messiah’s birth on Christmas Day. Scriptures pertaining to each ornament are read and a short prayer may be said before the Child hangs the ornament on the tree. Each family should use the Jesse Tree within their own family’s faith traditions.
Level 2 Atrium met for the first time on November 10, with the Unity of the Kingdom of God (Creation) lesson presented. Level 2 had a special guest, Jonah’s grandfather from Argentina. We hope he learned some things about the Church of the Holy Communion’s Children’s Christian Education.
This past Sunday, November 17, two different lessons were presented.
The Gifts of God, which breaks out the wonderful Gifts God gave us at Creation, were reading from scripture and set on a timeline matching the days of Creation as set forth in Genesis 1.
The second lesson was in the subject of Biblical Geography. There are photos to show the actual work of The Child and the work itself, wherein the Child begins to learn of the places where Jesus, the Good Shepherd, was born, grew up, died, and was resurrected, assuring us of our Salvation and the Coming of the Kingdom of God when God will be All in All ushering in Parousia. This is very intense information for 7 to 9 year-olds, but very necessary to understanding Jesus’ time among us on Earth. Presented in a manner for the Child in this age group’s understanding, the Child becomes grounded early in the understanding of the Kingdom of God and his/her place in it.
