CAJM – House Meeting

Cajm

CAJMCharleston Area Justice Ministry

We are a community of dynamic power for justice in the Charleston area. Over 12 years ago, the Church of the Holy Communion was one of the founding faith communities to start this organization.

The CAJM year begins with a listening process in House Meetings. In the House Meeting, we share our concerns of injustice in our community. Below you see a list of areas we have worked in, however, that does not mean we do not either add a new topic or visit other aspects of the issues we have and continue to address.

Environmental Justice, Ethical Governance in Education, Access to Primary Health Care, Affordable Housing, Juvenile Justice, Adequate Transportation, Racial, Discrimination in Police Practices, Poor Reading Levels, Youth Incarceration, School-Based Arrests, Young Adult Unemployment, Wage Theft, High Rate of School Suspensions.

Because we listen to each person (which takes time) we limit how many attend a House Meeting. I will have as many House Meetings as needed to hear from all. I also will try to have a meeting when you can attend.

In the House Meeting we:

  • develop community by getting to know each other
  • learn how CAJM creates a better Charleston area
  • the important dates for CAJM meetings
  • how you can help in this important Godly ministry.

One of the scripture pieces we work from is Micah 6:8,  “what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

The first planned House Meeting is Monday, Sep 30th, at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Please contact Mary Neale Berkaw if you will attend this meeting or if you have any questions. More meetings will be added to accommodate all who want to attend.
